Who Are We?
Tusen Farms is an integrated digital farm aggregation platform that fosters long term partnerships between farmers, buyers and other stakeholders involved in the agricultural value chain. We use digital integrated aggregation platform to map crops growing in different geographic locations, and enable farmers to engage with a wide range of buyers of their produce in multiple locations...
Our partnership with our farmers begins when the farmer in planning her crop. We stay on to provide market insights that are helpful when farmers are planning the next crop. Our platform enables us to know when the crop is doing great, and when it is not doing so great, and we can reach out to connect farmers with partners who can help them get the produce ready for harvest.
At harvest, we offer farmers choice. Given our expansive network of buyers, farmers make informed choices regarding who to sell to and at what price. This gives them the bargaining power to have a say in the price offered at the farm gate. Our partnerships with buyers of all sizes makes it possible access to a large pool of farmers at different stages of production, making it possible to provide consistent supply at the right price and quality.
In 2018, we got together as friends, studied seasonal market trends for agricultural produce in Kenya and Malawi and developed our very first farms in Kabete and Machakos counties in Kenya.
Committed to inject professional management into our farms, we planted at the right time, used certified inputs and engaged expert agronomical advice... Instead of a smooth ride through the planting season, we found ourselves struggling to get quality seedlings, busted our irrigation budget when the rains failed and fought unending battles with stubborn crop diseases.
When the crop was ready for the market, our harvested volumes each week could not fill into a rented truck to bring it to far off markets that were beckoning with healthy prices for our produce.
During the two seasons, we sold our produce in the local market, only making a fraction of the returns we could get if we transported our produce to market locations where prices were higher.
This is the experience that led us to develop the Tusen Farms aggregation platform, to enable small holder farmers like ourselves, aggregate their produce, and get better prices, while enabling buyers of farm produce get assured of a steady supply of quality produce at fair prices.
Tusen farms is supported by a wide range of professionals from the public and private sector, with technical support provided by a distinguished team of advisors.
